SDGs Oriented Eco Products in Pakistan

Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) have become the talk of the town lately. These are the 2030 Agenda of United Nations Member States to provide a shared blueprint for the peace and well-being of people and the planet, now and in the future as well. If we talk about Pakistan, many companies have already joined hands to promote SDGs in the country. If you people are inquisitive to know why Green upshot has been inaugurated? The sheer purpose of the launch of Green Upshot is to promote awareness regarding contemporary Environmental challenges arising in Pakistan and how we can cope with these by creating awareness and launching Eco-friendly products to achieve SDGs 2030 target. Serving the country is the motto of Green upshot. Here in this blog, you will come to know, how our Eco- products help to achieve four major Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG3-GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Good health and well-being are the most important luxuries one can enjoy. The plastic products we use for our daily purposes are not only harmful to the environment but also to our health as well. According to recent studies, bottled water contains an excessive level of microplastics as 50% more plastic than tap water. Human exposure to microplastics could lead to Oxidative stress, DNA damage and inflammation, and other health issues. Our Eco water bottle and other bamboo-based products are safeguarding health because bamboo is a cellulose-based natural product that stimulates the appetite, prevents constipation, and improves digestion. Sounds good, right!! That’s the mere purpose of Green upshot to achieve SDG3 in Pakistan by replacing Plastic with Bamboo and helping people to live a healthier lifestyle.

SDG12-RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION

Are you up for responsible consumption? As responsible citizens of Pakistan, it is our responsibility to keep a critical eye on our consumption and production. But you know, we produce 3.3 million tons/ year of plastic waste in Pakistan. We think that buying more is a success, which is not true. Safeguarding our country and planet is a true success. The production of plastic itself is a threat to this planet because we throw the plastic products after one time use and it takes almost 450 years to decompose plastic products in landfills. On the other hand, bamboo products are biodegradable and they take only 1 year to decompose in a landfill. As Green Upshot is the house of eco-friendly products and by ditching plastic consumption and production, we help Pakistan to achieve SDG12.

SDG13-CLIMATE ACTION

Let’s talk about how plastic production affects climate change. We know almost all plastic originates from chemicals like ethylene and propylene coming from fossil fuels, mostly oil and gas. The extracting, and transporting process of these fuels and then production of plastics produces billions of tones of greenhouse gases. To achieve SDG13 in Pakistan, we have to cut down Fossil Fuel generated plastic products. Eco-friendly products in this regard are of great help because they are directly manufactured from bamboo. We at GREEN UPSHOT make Pakistan Plastic free and make people realize that it is high time to take action against Climate Change in Pakistan.

SDG14- LIFE BELOW WATER

Life below water is choking from plastic pollution. According to an estimation, 8 million tons of plastic waste enter every year and it is expected that by 2050, there will be more plastic in oceans than fish. If we talk about the oceans in Pakistan, specifically Karachi’s beaches, Hawk’s Bay, Sandspit, Sea View, Paradise Point, and Manora Island, which once was tourist attraction and beautiful picnic spots have now become garbage dump sites, polluted sewerage mixes up, oil spills, etc., have not only harmful for beaches but also diminished the marine life to a very concerning extent. Unfortunately, 60-70% of the garbage dumps of Pakistan comprise plastic waste, and Karachi makes the largest contribution to this percentage. By replacing Plastic bottles with eco-friendly ones, we can surely help to achieve this goal.
